Icing - Kelly Jamieson - Review

Icing

Blurb

Duncan Armstrong may be an NHL star, but he’s a country boy at heart. His ultimate fantasy is going home with the Stanley Cup, not a gold-digging airhead who aspires to be a trophy wife and nothing more. Newly single and hoping to enjoy a night out with his teammates, he ends up hitting it off with a down-to-earth waitress who’s a complete breath of fresh air—until Duncan learns that she’s a part-time model. He tries to forget about her, but their sizzling chemistry has him coming back for more.

Amber is working hard to put herself through school, and has zero interest in dating a professional athlete. She’s seen firsthand how fame and fortune can mess with their heads—her father’s brilliant football career ended in a firestorm of addiction and infidelity. So Duncan’s attentions immediately have her on the defensive. Still, there’s something different about him. And once she stops trying to freeze him out, irresistible temptation turns into all-consuming passion.

I have been a fan of Kelly Jamieson's books ever since I read the Heller Brother's series.  I fell in love with Duncan Armstrong's character in the book Major Misconduct and was so excited to read his story in icing.

Duncan and Amber are complete opposites, but hey opposites attract.  She loves the city, he loves the country.  Amber has an aversion to sports and a contempt for professional athletes. Duncan plays ice hockey professionally for a living.   They may be different in many ways but their attraction is instant and they are definitely compatible sexually.

Duncan is your typical down to earth farm boy.  Unassuming, talented, honest and honorable and doesn't have a sophisticated bone in his body .Duncan is such a lovable character, he's kind, caring, loyal and also generous and humble.  You would think being in the NHL he would be confident, but living in the city out of his comfort zone, leaves him with a few insecurities.  With his profession comes notoriety and he is sick of being used by women who are only interested in what's in his bank account.

Amber is hard working, smart and loyal and never wanted to become involved with a professional sportsman.  She's a part time model, waitress and student, who barely has time for herself let alone a relationship. Amber had a rough childhood that makes her feel its necessary to be self reliant, independent and stubborn and be able to stand on her own two feet.  Duncan has a few alpha tendencies on and off the ice and part of his caring nature, he struggles to understand Amber's independence but respects it all the same.

I love a sports romance, particularly a hockey romance that incorporates a great romantic story with the excitement, energy and action of the sport.  Not being from a country where ice hockey is played, it was great to have some of the rules incorporated into the story line.  I love when an author incorporates characters that have been introduced in previous books and continues their story.  The steamy yet sweet scenes are engaging and entertaining.   The Aces team members are so enjoyable to read, and I can't wait to read more of their stories.
