With each book I read of Lani's I get further drawn in to the lives of the fictional town of Kilgore. Controlled Burn is the story of the romance of July Dupree and Dean PD Hargrove.
After falling in love hard and fast, July and PD part ways. July's fears for PD whilst on the job, were the main reason for the couple parting ways. PD is committed to his work, and helping the people of Kilgore. PD is an incredibly endearing character, but at times I found him frustrating and completely clueless, and wondered why in the hell I was drawn to his character, and wanted him to find happiness. I think the main reason I wanted PD to find his happy ever after was July. She's so incredibly relate-able and completely endearing with her insecurities, and her self deprecating sense of humor. I loved the banter between these characters, on more than one occasion I was laughing out loud as I read their story.
July and PD's story is fast paced, quite steamy and full of hot chemistry. There is a little bit of BDSM thrown into this book, which was not something I have read in Lani's books previously. This book was fun and entertaining and I devoured it in one sitting. The is a great contemporary romance with an element of suspense. There were a few twists and turns in this book, that I didn't anticipate. I thoroughly enjoyed this book and cannot wait for more of this series.
