I’m forty, flabby, and frustrated. Don’t get me wrong, I have a good home, a decent job, and great children. I had a loving marriage for twenty years where we had our ups and downs. It wasn’t perfect; but it wasn’t awful. Then he died.
After the grief took its course, and the reality of my life set in, I grew frustrated. It wasn’t the bills or the struggle to keep my interest in my work. It was life without a man – the only man I’d been with for twenty years. And before you go all feminist on me, it isn’t that I can’t be an independent woman, but there are certain areas where a man is necessary.
You need a fuck buddy, my friend said.
I didn’t even know what that meant.
Is it friends with benefits?, I asked.
Better, you don’t even have to be friends, she offered.
Boy, did I need an education in the modern workings of dating, and sex.

5 Stars
L.B. Dunbar is one of those authors who has been sitting in my to be read list on my kindle, for quite awhile. After reading the Sex Education of Me, her books have been moved way up the list. This book is incredibly well written and is well paced.
Right from the very first chapter this book grabbed my attention, and I didn't want to put it down. I loved that the heroine Emme, is a forty something mother with lumps and bumps and due to her past lacks confidence in herself and has issues with trusting members of the opposite sex. I'm in my 30's but still found this character to be completely relateable and believable. I loved that she was so complex and flawed, it made her all the more endearing to me.
Merek, hmm grey fox comes to mind with this one. He's a straight up womanizer, he doesn't commit, he does one night stands and tries to share as little of himself with his partners as possible. At times he frustrated me, but once the truth behind his situation is revealed you feel for him more than anything.
This book had me feeling a range of emotions, there was laughter, frustration, annoyance, and quite a few smiles as I read Emme and Merek's story. Overall this is a heartfelt and swoon worthy read that I thoroughly recommend. I really didn't want it to each and was kind of disappointed when I got to the last page.
