I’ve come undone. For years I thought the world looked at my family and saw perfection. I was a busy surgeon and my wife was devoted to our two boys. But her devotion crumbled as her alcoholism took over. The outside world saw all too well what I wanted to deny.
Ten months ago she filed for divorce, packed up and moved away. To where – I don’t know. Nor do I care. But my boys do. And they’re left with me, a man who never learned how to be the dad they deserve.
Just when I’m starting to pick up the pieces, my world is rocked again by the last woman I’d expect. Given her past with my family, she’s a bad idea. But I’m drawn like a moth to a flame. I can’t stay away, even though I know this, too, will eventually crumble around me.
4.5 Stars
Drawn Deeper is more than a love story, its a story of embracing possibilities and finding yourself.
This is an incredibly sweet, emotional and sexy romance. I am a huge Brenda Rothert fan, and have many of her works but this was the first book that I had read in the the Lockhart Brothers series, and it can be easily read as a standalone. Drawn Deeper can be viewed as both a second chance romance, and also a slightly taboo romance as well.
Both Meredith and Kyle are incredibly complex, lovely, endearing and like-able characters. They both have a vulnerability attributed from their pasts.
Meredith Hobbs is the town outcast, she followed her heart and left her ex at the alter. She lives with the rumours and gossiping about her even though her ex has moved on and found his own happiness. Whilst Meredith is a daddy's girl, she also has an incredibly big heart and gave up her own dreams to help out her family.
Kyle Lockhart is the town golden boy and surgeon. He's a divorced single father doing the best to raise his two sons on his own. Between work and parenthood, he doesn't have time for a relationship and it's really the last thing he's looking for after getting out of a bad marriage from his alcoholic ex-wife.
Meredith and Kyle have a pretty instant connection and chemistry, and their attraction builds the more time they spend in each others company. The love scenes are quite sweet, but also steamy.
This book is told from a dual point of view and has a quick pace. There are strong themes of family, forgiveness, strength, hope and love explored throughout the story line.
I thoroughly enjoyed this book and found it incredibly entertaining and engaging, and don't hesitate to recommend it. After reading it, I purchased the other books in the series to familiarize myself with the stories of the other Lockhart brothers, and I cannot wait to read any more additions to this series.
