Ain't Doin' It is the fourth title in the Simple Man series. Coke first appeared in Get You Some, which made me all the more eager to read his story. He has an ex who is really a psychotic harpy and is a saint in my opinion for all the abuse he suffers at her hands. This endearing character may be broody and bossy, but he's also gentle, kind, big hearted, loyal and a devoted father.
Cora is unique, complex, endearing, and funny character. She's emanates an innocence, and ten years Coke's junior. She introverted and socially awkward and struggles to communicate at times. I can totally relate to her aversion to conflict.
Cora and Coke's story is suspenseful and a slow burn, but their chemistry is undeniable and when they connect it's smoking hot and passionate.
I love how this title is interconnected not only with the previous titles in the Simple Man Series, but The Freebirds. Several characters from previous titles also appeared within this story line.
My only complaint is that I need a family tree as it took awhile for me to realise that Cora was Ember and Gabe's daughter. One of the many reasons I adore Lani's books is how her characters and their lives are interconnected, but due to her prolific writing I struggle to recall all the connections and ties.
I will be eagerly awaiting the next addition to the Simple Man series, and look forward to seeing new characters appear in their own titles in the future.
