I’m about to knock when the door swings open and a man looking strikingly similar to Harvey appears.

“Hey, you must be Rhodes. I’m Flynn,” he says, holding out his hand.

I shake it and smile, relieved he’s not making this weirder than it has to be. It makes sense he’d be here since Dee said he had a standing date with Harvey on Sundays. “Yep. That’s me.”

Silence stretches between us. We both stand there, looking at each other.

“Oh, shit, sorry. Do you wanna come in? Dee’s in the bedroom finishing getting ready.”

I laugh and rub the back of my neck, stepping inside behind my date’s ex-husband. “It’s okay. We both know this is kind of awkward, right?”

Flynn snorts. “Honestly, yeah, it’s the first time I’ve had to deal with meeting the guy dating Dee, but that’s to be expected when we share a house, right?”

I open my mouth to reply but freeze at his revelation. Thank f*ck I cover quickly. “Right. I guess that makes sense with Harvey and all.”

Flynn’s gaze narrows slightly before widening. “Oh fuck. You didn’t know, did you?” He scrubs his mouth. “Damn. I dumped her in it. Look, sorry, but it is just a living arrangement. It works for us, it works for Harvey, and I’ve got a girlfriend that I’m kinda crazy about. So please don’t feel threatened or go all alpha dog on me,” he says, his lips twitching.

How can I hate this guy now? “Thanks for explaining it. I’m surprised, but I’m sure Dee meant to tell me.”

“To be fair, Harvs and I should’ve left by now. You’ve kinda been blindsided, but it was completely unintentional.”

 “You know, you’re making it hard for me not to like you?” I say, making him laugh.

“Good. Because you’re the first guy Dee has gone out on a date with in two years, so I’m glad you’re not a dick either.”

Footsteps grab my attention, and when I look up I meet Dee’s slow-growing smile as she walks down the staircase toward us, her eyes going from soft and warm to wide and worried when her gaze shifts to a grinning Flynn leaning against the wall. “Oh f*ck.”

“That’s what I said,’ Flynn says.

 

Life Changer is the second title in the Chicago First Responders series and features Rhodes and Dee.

This title is a heartwarming, at times emotional single parent romance.

Rhodes is a sexy, sweet, kind, and caring widower with a sixteen-year-old son who also happens to be a firefighter.  As endearing as Rhodes is, it’s his son Jake who you can’t help but love who whilst similar to his father in many ways is also a complete smart ass, and has way more knowledge of the world, women and romance for his tender years.

Dee is a divorced single mother to a ten-year-old son Harvey.  She’s sassy, fun and a chef, restaurant owner and video blogger who had an enviable relationship with her ex-husband who is also her best friend.

The relationship that Rhodes and Dee shares felt realistic with plenty of steamy and hot interactions, but also moments where their vulnerabilities shine through.

Their banter is witty, fun, flirty and has plenty of humorous one liners.

I loved that the characters from previous books written by BJ Harvey make cameo appearances throughout this title and I look forward to the next addition to the Chicago First Responders series.

Life Changer is a feel-good romance, that is sure to leave you with a smile upon your face.

Dotted Lines is the fifth and final title in the Runaway series.  Whilst I was eager to read this title I was also hesitant as it’s bittersweet to reach the end of this engaging and captivating series.  This title is one of second chances, and is filled with poignant and heartfelt emotion and quite a bit of angst.

This title features Clara Saint-James and Karson Avery.  Anyone familiar with the previous title will be quite aware of Clara’s character as Forsaken Trail told her twin sister Aria’s story and much of her backstory was revealed in that title. 

Karson and Clara’s shared background is told via flashbacks to their final months in the junk yard as well as filling in the gaps in the ensuing years.

It’s been twelve years since they’ve seen each other and Clara, a single mother along with her five-year-old son Austin, set out on the last leg of the journey in delivering the Cadillac back into Karson’s hands in California, and it raises some confronting feelings for her.

Karson is protective, and after facing the demons of his upbringing has found success and settled into a comfortable life.

The chemistry between this pair is undeniable despite the years apart and I loved the bond they shared as both teens and adults.

The epilogue is heartfelt and is sure to leave you with a smile upon your face.

Three’s A Crowd is the second title in the Love in Apartment 3B series and features Fiona and Keane.  Both characters were introduced in Hit or Miss the previous standalone, and each title is interconnected. 

Fiona is Marlowe’s best friend since childhood and Keane is Marlowe’s older brother.  They have a volatile relationship, and their story could best be described as an enemies to lovers, best friends brother, romantic comedy.

Their banter is antagonistic, and they love to pick at each other, but underneath their bickering is and undeniable chemistry and attraction that grows over the course of this title. 

Overall, this title is one of taking risks and facing fears, whilst it’s a lighthearted, enjoyable and fun read there are moments of drama, humor and plenty of passion.

Underboss is the first title in the With Me in Seattle Mafia series, featuring Carmine Martinelli and Nadia Tarenkov.  I’m a long-time reader of the With Me in Seattle series, and if that hadn’t sold me on giving this book a try, the gorgeous cover would have. 

For anyone who has read You Belong with Me, you will be familiar with Carmine’s character as he was featured in his cousin Elena’s story.

Carmine likes the finer things in life and lives a luxurious lifestyle.  He’s the eldest of the Martinelli brothers and a strong, sexy, intelligent, sophisticated and dominant alpha.

Nadia is a strong, resilient, intelligent, head strong, and opinionated mafia princess, who isn’t afraid to go after what she wants.

The chemistry between this pair is undeniable, their relationship and interactions are hot and steamy and even though this title is laced with intrigue and danger, it’s still on the lighter side for a mafia romance with violence that isn’t as graphic or gruesome as in some titles I’ve read. 

Despite a long-lasting rivalry between their two mafia families, they are both incredibly loyal and willing to do anything to protect those they hold dear. 

The banter this pair shares is witty, and whilst they are intriguing, insightful they are both also exceptionally good at impersonating and charming their way into getting what they want.

Bound By Redemption is the eighth title in the Ravage MC Bound series, and is the conclusion to Micah and Ensley’s story that began in Bound By Consequences. 

This title is not only fast paced and entertaining, but completely captivating.  I was enthralled from start to finish by this action, intrigue and suspense fueled MC romance with plenty of drama and angst.

Ensley is brave, strong and resilient and Micah is dedicated, sweet, and loving.  He’s determined to make amends for the past and willing to do just about anything that is asked of him to prove his loyalty and commitment to Ravage.

Whilst I enjoyed the first title in this duet, this one surpassed my expectations and I look forward to the next addition to the Ravage MC Bound series.

The Risk Taker is the second title in the Boston Hawks Hockey series featuring Claire Merrick and Easton Scotch.  Both characters had cameo appearances in the first title The Sweet Talker and I was eager for their story and it didn’t disappoint.

I highly recommend this title to anyone who enjoys a brother’s best friend romance, sports romance featuring professional hockey players.

Easton is a recovering alcoholic who is driven and determined to win his place back on the Boston Hawks NHL team.  He’s got his fair share of demons and struggles with his self-worth but is strong and more resilient than he realizes.

Claire is Easton’s teammate and best friend’s younger sister and she’s had an unrequited feelings for Easton for quite some time.  Claire is kind, caring, compassionate and creative.  She’s a people pleaser and has a tendency to try and lease the ones she loves, even if its at the expense of her own happiness.

Despite the fact that the chemistry between this pair is undeniable; they have their fair share of struggles due to miscommunication and they both struggle to recognize their own value.

I look forward to Torston’s story in The Faker next.
