Whiskey Rebellion is the third title in the Taking Risks series. Whilst the first two titles in the series focus on Declan O’Callaghan, this title features his younger sister Lena. Whilst I would recommend reading the previous titles, as this title follows where the timeline of events left off, you could read Whiskey Rebellion as a standalone.
Lena O’Callaghan is desperately trying to out run her past, and her identity and duties expected of the Whiskey Princess. Damaged and hurt, Lena is desperate to feel alive, but her behaviours are unhealthy and it leads to a downward spiral. Although she’s rebellious, lost and lonely, she’s a survivor and incredibly strong, and resilient. I loved that she’s not the quiet, insipid girl from the previous titles, and has a real backbone and isn’t afraid to fight for what she wants.
Jackson is a gypsy, never staying in one place too long, he’s travelling the world. This pair meet by chance, and miscommunications and misunderstanding result in them not parting in the best of ways. But fate has other plans for this pair and their paths once again cross and brings them back together. Jackson is very endearing being strong, affectionate, supportive, caring and loyal.
The chemistry between Lena and Jackson is very hot and steamy, and incredibly intense. They are both slightly damaged and a little bit broken, trying to outrun the demons of their past. Both are very like-able characters, fallible and realistic.
Lena and Jackson’s tale is an emotional journey of self-discovery, and overcoming the demons of their past. I found this tale to be engaging and quite enjoyed revisiting Ireland and becoming reacquainted with so many of the characters who appeared in the previous titles.
