Figuring out what to do with her life now that she’s a civilian is disheartening. But one thing she lives for—doing battle with the obnoxious, arrogant, incredibly hot Marine at work.

Their battles turn into true camaraderie, then into something more. Helping each other out with family problems, Cash and Jordan learn to trust each other. 4 Stars

Smooth Moves is the second title in the Veteran Movers series featuring Cash and Jordan.  This pair both appeared frequently in the first book in the series, The Whole Package.

Whilst Cash can be intense, egotistical and obnoxious, a lot of his outward bravado hides a sensitive, kind, caring and compassionate heart.  He's protective and has a tendency to leap before he looks, that can get him into trouble at times.

Jordan is strong, independent and fierce.  She's sarcastic, yet sweet and quite strong willed and not afraid to speak her mind.

I really enjoyed the flirtatious, witty and fun banter this pair shares.  Their snarky commentary is really a form of verbal foreplay as they butt heads frequently.  Their relationship is passionate, and I enjoyed watching it evolve and grow from co-workers to lovers.

Both these characters are realistic, and fallible, with a bot load of baggage from their childhoods and time in the military.

After several reveals in this title, I will be looking forward to the next title in the Veteran Movers series.

Work In Progress - BJ Harvey - Release Blitz

Title: Work in Progress
Series: Cook County #1
Author: BJ Harvey
Genre: Romantic Comedy
Release Date: May 22, 2019

Flipping houses if not for the weak of heart. Neither is falling in love.

Jamie Cook is a work-in-progress. He’s always wanted what his parents have: a good marriage, lots of kids, and financial security. He thought he’d have the first two with his ex-girlfriend while the third would come once he got his house-flipping business off the ground. When his ex doesn’t subscribe to his five-year plan, he makes Cook Brothers Construction his sole focus.

Then he moves next door to April Williams, a sassy single mom he can’t stop riling up. Throw in her matchmaking mother-in-law, who’s set her sights on Jamie being April’s knight in a leather tool belt, and a house threatening Jamie’s sanity, and it should be a recipe for disaster, but Jamie wants this three-month project to last forever. That’s if he can stop being the neighbor from hell and prove to April he’s not just flipping a house—he wants to flip her heart.

“Jamie?”
“Yeah, buddy?”
“So, are you my new dad now?”
I open my mouth to say something, but nothing comes out.
Before I’m able to find the power of speech again, he continues, “But you’re my boss too?”
I decide to play along. “Your boss?”
He nods. “At the house. Building and stuff.”
“Well, not exact—”
“So that makes you my dad boss then?” He has the most serious look on his face, and I’m totally out of my depth here.
“Um…” I look to the door, willing April to walk through it and save me.
“Dad boss then,” he says again with a nod. “That’s good. Means I can get more money now.”
I cough, reaching over to the nightstand to take a long, much-needed drink from my coffee cup. I say the only thing that comes to mind. “Sure thing, buddy.”
“Awesome,” he says, a huge smile transforming his face. “Then I can buy flowers for Mom, so the next time you break our garden, I can fix it and make her smile like you did.”
“That’s a great idea. Now… have you seen my pants?”
“Are you not wearing pajamas?” Without warning, he lifts the sheet covering me from the waist down. “Oh, you’ve got big boy boxers like me. Mommy says I can only wear them when I wear shorts though. Are you sure you wore pants last night? Maybe you wore shorts because you’ve got your big boy boxers on.” And thank fuck I kept them on before falling to sleep last night.
“I was definitely wearing pants. Do you want to look in the bathroom for me?”
“It’s okay. I don’t need to. I saw Mommy carrying them into the kitchen.”
“Lovely?” I yell, hoping she can hear me. When a loud beat starts coming from downstairs, my bullshit sensor starts pinging. April is up to something, especially since it’s the exact same Queen song I was playing the night we first met. Two can play this game.
“Should we go get pancakes?” I ask.
“Yeah!” he says, jumping up and down before running out of the room.
I move to the bathroom and use the facilities. Searching for my clothes, I come up empty. Sure enough, my pants have indeed disappeared. With nothing else left to do about it, I walk out of the bedroom and down the stairs, wearing nothing but my boxer shorts.
I stop still the moment I enter the kitchen. Just as I’d imagined, April is sitting at the dining table, coffee in hand, her legs up, her ankles crossed on a chair with a wicked smirk on her face. Her only saving grace is the huge plate of pancakes piled high in the middle of the table.
“Hey Ax, how’s breakfast?” I ask.
“So good,” he groans, stuffing another forkful of pancake in his mouth.
“What are you doing after school today?”
His head snaps up. “Nuff-thing,” he says with a mouthful of food.
“Good. I was thinking you could bring your mom and gran over and we could give them a tour of the house now that it’s finished.”
“Oh wow. Yeah,” he says, puffing out his little chest. “I can show them where I worked.”
“Yep,” I reply with a grin. With his attention back on his rapidly emptying plate, I move in front of April. ”You look good in my tee. Did you also find my pants on your travels?”

Her lips twitch. ”I thought I’d do some laundry.”

I adore BJ Harvey's Bliss & Game series', each title has the perfect blend of heat, heart and humor.  I love a single parent romance, and having enjoyed her previous books I was ready to dive into the Cook County series.  Knowing that the sister of the hero in this book was featured in the Game series in Game Saver was an added bonus.  If you've read Ms Harvey's previous works you will recognise a few characters throughout this title.

Jamie and April are an endearing and well developed pair of characters, who share the common bond that they have both had their hearts broken.

April is a hard working single mother to a precocious and cheeky little boy Axel who will melt your heart.  She's feisty, sassy and strong, just what you want in a heroine.

Jamie is sweet, hard working, and very loyal and loving when it comes to his siblings.

The banter this pair shares is witty, fun, flirtatious and full of moments of humor that will have you laughing out loud.

The chemistry they share oozes off the page and is both swoony and steamy.

The Cook brothers are fun, and irreverent but have huge loving hearts and I cannot wait to discover the rest of their stories.

Death—it’s coming.

“No, Neve, these guys are from my clubhouse. They’ve come to check in on me. Say hello, everyone,” Cindi calls out.
Neve. What a gorgeous name. Her eyes light up as she assesses me again.
“These are the kinds of bikers in your clubhouse? No wonder you were telling me they’re all gorgeous. I mean look at muscles here.”
She points at Noah, then her eyes wander back to me.
“And man bun… wow! Certainly not how I pictured macho bikers.”
I scrunch my face. “You don’t think we’re biker enough for you, darlin’?” I ask.
Her lips pull in tight, but the edges curl upward giving her away as she folds her arms over her chest, the papers making a crinkling sound.
“I think your hair is far too pretty to convey a murderous one percenter.”
I let out a small laugh. “How do you know what a one percenter is?”
She shrugs. “I saw Sons of Anarchy.”
I raise my brow. “And did you think Jax was a badass?”
She hesitates, but her lips turn up. Her pearly whites dazzle me like the stars do after the dimness of dusk. In this moment right here, I have to stop and admire her true beauty.
“Yeah… he had his moments.”
I’m snapped out of her spell and brought back into the moment, so I make my point.
“And didn’t he and his badass-self have long, pretty hair, too?”
Noah howls like a damn hyena as Cindi gives me a double thumbs up.
Neve tilts her head. “Touché, Tarzan.”

Ace has been a prominent character throughout the Chicago Defiance series, and I was quite eager to read his story.  Although Balance can be read as a standalone, I would recommend reading the previous books first to not only know and understand the backstory but also the side characters who appear frequently within this title. There will also be spoilers if you choose to read this title prior to the other books in the series.

Ace is a tech guru, he's loyal, dedicated, sexy, protective and has an affinity for superheroes in particular Iron Man.  He craves the type of connection his club brothers have found with their old ladies.

Neve is a movie star, and despite the fact that she is strong, successful, wealthy and lives her life in the public eye she's really quite down to earth.

The chemistry between this pair is undeniable and their story is not only engaging, but well written.  Full of danger, intrigue, suspense, death and deceit this book is sure to keep your attention from start to finish.

I will be eagerly awaiting Ms Osborne's next release!

Superfan - Sarina Bowen - Cover Reveal

Sometimes lady luck shakes your hand, and sometimes she smacks your face. Sometimes she does both on the same day.

Three years ago I met the most amazing woman. We were both down on our luck. Then I got that call—the one that tells you to get your buns on a plane to go meet your destiny.
But the girl was left behind. I didn’t have her phone number, and she didn’t know my real name.

While I became a professional hockey player, she became a superstar, with platinum records and legions of fans. And a slick, music producer boyfriend who treated her badly.
But fate wasn’t done with us yet. When Delilah turns up at a hockey game, I can’t resist making contact. The internet swoons when I ask her out on a date.

She might not remember me. But her jerkface ex does. He’ll do anything to keep us apart.
Good thing athletes never give up. This time I’m playing for keeps.

“Would you like a beer?” the cute bartender asks me.
I glance at the pile of mint leaves on his cutting board and hesitate. “Sure,” I say. But the mint looks so fresh and pretty.
“I could make you something different.”
“Beer is great. A cold…”
“—lager,” he finishes. “No glass, no opener.”
When I look up to flash him a smile, my heart does a little somersault. Those kind eyes are smiling at me, too. “Thank you,” I whisper.
“It’s really no problem.” He turns toward the beer cooler. “You’re an easy customer, trust me.”
But I really meant—thank you for remembering. As he leans down to grab a bottle for me, I find myself admiring the strong muscles in his back. Stop it, I admonish myself. It only gets worse when he turns around and places the bottle in front of me. I’ve never seen hands like his. I didn’t even know wrists could look muscular.
Even so. Ogling him is not why I came here. I pull out my keychain opener and remove the cap from my beer.
He discards it, gives me another pleasant smile and then picks up his paring knife again.
I take a sip, wondering when he’s going to mention my show at the Coconut Club. He was there. I saw him.
He separates some mint leaves from their stems and says nothing.
I last about seventeen seconds. “Well?”
“Well?” He looks up. “Sorry?”
“Jesus lord.” I close my eyes and then open them again. This is not going how I’d hoped it would. “What did you think?”
“Of…?” His amazing eyes are studying me.
“Forget I asked.” I take a swig of beer.
“Think about what?” He pushes the cutting board aside, and his smile turns knowing.
“My set at the Coconut Club! I saw you holding up that wall in the back. Don’t lie.”
He tips his head back and lets out a sudden laugh. “I’m so busted. I loved your show, but I didn’t expect you to spot me.”
“You loved it so much you weren’t going to say anything?” The sentence sounds crazy to my own ears. I put down the beer. “You know what? Never mind. I’m just being psycho right now. This town is getting into my head.”
“Listen, girly.” He braces both (muscular!) hands on the bar and looks me right in the eye. “I loved it so much that I don’t even know what to say about it. From that moment at the beginning—when you shut that asshole’s maw? To the part where you made a lady cry.” He shakes his head. “I couldn’t look away. And I never wanted it to end.”
I give him a slow blink, just trying to take that in. It’s so much more than I was even hoping to hear.
“Shit, Delilah. If that set doesn’t win you whatever contract you’re looking for, they don’t even deserve you.”
Something warm and unfamiliar settles into the center of my belly. “That might be the nicest thing anyone ever said to me. Which only means you’re still trying to get my phone number.”
He laughs immediately. “Can’t both things be true? Both my musical assessment and my interest in your evening plans?”
“Because you know so much about music.” I flip my hair and take another sip of beer.
“Look. I don’t know shit about music. But I know plenty about talent.” He leans down on a set of forearms I shouldn’t be noticing. “I know that talent sometimes takes a nap at just the wrong moment, but it never stays asleep for long. I also know that luck matters, too. If they don’t give you what you want, it won’t be your fucking fault.”
“Thank you,” I say quietly.
But he’s not done. “I saw something else valuable the other night. You’re good in the clinch. And that counts for double, I swear to God.”
“The clinch?”
“Yeah. You’re not just good at practice.” He pauses, wrinkling up his interesting nose. “What word would a musician use? Okay—you’re not a rehearsal musician. That stage was like your home. Either that or you fake it really well. That’s going to pay your rent someday, I promise.”
“Wow.” It’s like he looked right into my terrified little soul and found the very thing I needed to hear. Those beautiful eyes of his are practically burning me right now, so I have to look away. “Thank you. Really. I really needed that pep talk.”
I make the mistake of looking up at him again, and, for a split second, I see pure yearning. It’s like our souls vibrate at exactly the same frequency. And I have no idea what to do with that.
