Crazy Heifer - Lani Lynn Vale

The Valentine Boys #2
Release Date: February 25

I fell in love with his rope skills. I stayed because somehow he took hold of my heart and made it his.

Callum Valentine didn’t mean to eavesdrop. Then again? When a man is calling a woman fat right in front of your table, it’s kind of hard not to intervene. Especially when the town’s most beautiful creature ever is the one being called fat.

Desi just wants to be left alone. After an ugly divorce, she thinks she’s in the clear. Then her ex takes it upon himself to continue to make her life miserable, giving Desi no choice but to take it or leave.

In fact, her bags were nearly all the way packed when Callum poked his nose into the most embarrassing spectacle the town of Kilgore has ever witnessed. The moment he declares her his and off limits, everything changes—and definitely not for the better.

As if things couldn’t get worse than being called a pitiful, fat heifer in front of the hottest man she’s ever seen, Callum has to go and say that she’s his, and they have to play a game that she’s not quite sure she wants to be playing.

But before her eyes, things change. And suddenly the rules of the game aren’t clear. And they’re crossing boundaries neither one of them see coming.

Crazy Heifer is the second title in The Valentine Boys series and after discovering the characters of Desi and Callum in Herd That, I was incredibly eager to read their story.  I highly recommend reading Herd That prior to reading Crazy Heifer as at times the story lines run concurrent to each other.  With strong themes of family, friendship and loyalty, I thoroughly enjoyed this captivating and engaging read.

Desi is the best friend of Codie, the heroine from Herd That.  She's such a realistic and relate-able heroine.  She's curvy and her figure causes her to feel self conscious, which i'm sure most females can relate to at some point in their lives.  Despite the insecurities and self doubts that plague her, she's also driven, determined, strong and capable.

Callum is my kind of hero.  He's kind, caring, compassionate, charming and loyal.  A bighearted cowboy who will do anything to support those he cares for most.  There were elements of his past that were glazed over a bit, and I would have liked a bit more detail of how his military history shaped his character, but that may come in future titles.

If you are looking for a small town romance, with heat, heart and humour that will leave you with a smile upon your face, look no further than Crazy Heifer.  I will be eagerly awaiting the release of Chute Yeah and future titles in The Valentine Boys series.
