And ...

He's just opened a new business that threatens the livelihood of Elsie's family's store--just in time for the holidays.

The problem?

There's an undeniable attraction that leads to out of control situations, a loss of inhibitions, and a lot of small town gossip.

As Elsie tries to redefine herself and convince her family she isn't having a midlife crisis, she's forced to answer the biggest question of all ...

Can she love an enemy who will never surrender?

Not What I Expected is a raw, authentic, emotional and heartfelt read.  It’s a story of love, loss and finding yourself.  This story feels incredibly real, but also has moment of humor that will have you laughing out loud.

Elsie Smith is a widowed mother, who suffers from both guilt and loss after twenty two years of marriage.  Despite the fact that she feels she lost herself at some point during her marriage and motherhood she’s sassy, strong, fierce, resilient, driven and determined.

Kael Hendricks is a wandering soul, who has settled in Epperly and opened a store that competes with Elsie’s family business.  Despite the twelve year age gap, and competitive nature of this pair their story is fun and flirty.  The chemistry they share is intense and undeniable.

This title will take you through a gamut of emotions.  Whilst reading this inspiring and relatable story I found myself smiling, laughing and crying.  It’s a refreshing story that deals with family dynamics, friendship and small town living, and I was captivated from beginning to end.
