Fallen Heir - Erin Watt - Review

Fallen Heir (The Royals #4) by Erin Watt

These Royals will ruin you.

Easton Royal has it all: looks, money, intelligence. His goal in life is to have as much fun as possible. He never thinks about the consequences because he doesn’t have to.

Until Hartley Wright appears, shaking up his easy life. She’s the one girl who’s said no, despite being attracted to him. Easton can’t figure her out and that makes her all the more irresistible.

Hartley doesn’t want him. She says he needs to grow up.

She might be right.

Rivals. Rules. Regrets. For the first time in Easton’s life, wearing a Royal crown isn’t enough. He’s about to learn that the higher you start, the harder you fall.

5 Stars

In the previous titles of The Royals, I have always loved Easton's character.  He's incredibly complex, broken, damaged and has self destructive tendencies.  He's a character who uses humor as a self defense mechanism, in order to hide his true feelings.  The timeline for this title is after the previous books in the series Paper Princess, Broken Prince, and Twisted Palace.  If you are a newsletter subscriber I would also recommend reading Tarnished Crown prior to reading Fallen Heir, as there are certain pieces of information revealed in this title that will ruin the reveal factor in the previous books.

Fallen Heir is told solely from Easton's point of view so in this title we see the true Easton and find that he's actually incredibly intelligent, sweet, endearing and funny.  There is so much more than meets the eye, when it comes to Easton Royal.  I adored his quirky personality traits and the humor filled one liners that had me snickering and laughing out loud.  Easton Royal is a survivor, he's incredibly stubborn, and passionate, yet love-able, his personality is quite addictive.  Easton loves to aggravate others, by being the thorn in their side, it entertains him to no end.  Although he is incredibly charming, trouble seems to find him, and he loves a challenge.  Easton loves to flirt and the sexual innuendo's seem to just roll off his tongue.  He tends to hide his true self behind an arrogance, and says what he thinks despite the consequences.   I loved watching his character evolve and grow over the course of this title and my perceptions of his character changed drastically.  He has a huge heart and is a really good guy, at times he needs to work on his delivery, but has honorable intentions and his heart is in the right place, but often hides behind a fake persona pretending to be quite reckless and thoughtless.

Hartley is incredibly complex, and whilst like-able she is also kind of frustrating.  She's independent, private, proud and works hard. But boys does she have secrets.

The banter between Hartley and Easton is fun, and full of flirting, and more often than not quite argumentative.  They have amazing sexual tensions that just oozes off the page, but their relationship is incredibly rocky and they constantly push and pull at one another.  In Hartley, Easton has met his match unlike the females he is used to, she has no interest in falling at his feet, or bagging herself a Royal.

I loved that we still see plenty of the other Royals in this title, and have plenty of Elle and snippets with Reed.

Overall I loved this addition to this completely captivating and entertaining series, and cannot wait for the next title in this series.  Be prepared that this title does end on a cliffhanger, so if you don't want to wait for the rest of Easton and Hartley's story, you may want to wait for the next installment in January to release.
