Blocked - LP Dover - Release Blitz & Review

Title: Blocked
A Breakaway Novel
Author: L.P. Dover
Genre: Sports Romance

Publisher: Random House/Loveswept
Release Date: October 31, 2017

He’s got every reason to be cocky . . . until a female cuts him down to size.

I’m Dallas Easton, the best goaltender in the league. I make a damn good living playing hockey, and with women falling at my feet wherever I go, why not enjoy it? I get whatever I want, whenever I want—that is, until I come across the one player who gets the best of me on the ice.

When I try to pummel the dude, all hell breaks loose. Imagine my surprise when the helmet comes off to reveal a woman underneath. And not just any woman, but the sexiest woman I’ve ever seen. Callie Davis is the complete opposite of the puck bunnies I usually go for, a good girl with sick moves and a selfless streak a mile wide. I need to make amends, but she dodges me at every turn. It doesn’t help that Callie’s brother hates my guts, or that my agent thinks she’s bad for my career.

But I could care less what they think. I can’t let our little run-in on the ice be the end of our story. Because when I set my sights on something, I won’t rest until I score.

Heart pounding, I stared him down, waiting for him to take the shot. The second he drew back his stick, I got into position, only for him to hit me right between the eyes with his glove. For a split second I lost my focus, and he slapped the puck right between my legs.

“Motherfucker,” I growled, glaring down at the glove on the ice and the puck in the goal. The worthless cunt actually had the audacity to throw his glove at my face. Kellan burst out laughing and the whole rink echoed as they cheered at my expense. Red just fucked up big time.
The others tried their luck to no avail, and then Red was back at it. I waited for him to throw the other glove, but instead, he turned and sprayed ice right up into my face, his body colliding with mine. During our fall, he hit the puck right into the goal. Rage coursed through my veins and all I could see was red . . . literally. Getting up quickly, he started back toward the others and I slid out my stick, hooking it around his ankle. I jerked him back and he fell. If he wanted to play dirty, I’d show him how dirty I could be. He tried to get up, but I pushed him back down, tossing my mask and gloves onto the ice. The others shouted and skated toward us, but I wasn’t letting Red get away with making me out to be a fool.
“Think you’re hot shit now, huh?” I spat, grabbing him by the jersey. He was smaller than me, so it wasn’t hard to flip him over and rip off his mask. Blinded by rage, I pulled my fist back, only to stop cold in my tracks. I stared at the face behind the mask, completely transfixed.
The person lying on the ice wasn’t Justin’s brother. It was a woman, and not just any woman. She was the most beautiful thing I’d ever seen. Before any words could escape my lips, Justin tackled me to the ice and my breath whooshed out of my lungs as we slid to the wall.
“What the fuck is your problem? That’s my sister,” he shouted angrily. Eyes darkening, he slammed my shoulders against the wall.
Catching my breath, I looked up at him and held up my hands. “I didn’t know it was a female. I wouldn’t have touched her if I’d known.” Under most circumstances, I’d have punched him and been done, but I felt like a tool.
His nostrils flared. “You’re such a prick.”
“Justin,” his sister called out. We both looked over at her as Kellan and the other two guys helped her up. They all stared daggers at me, including her. “Let’s go.”
Justin pushed off of me and skated over to her. I got one last look at her angelic face and emerald green eyes before she turned around and disappeared off the ice.

3.5 Stars

Blocked is the second title in the Breakaway series, and as much as I enjoyed the first title in the series Hard Stick, I struggled somewhat to connect with this title.

Don't get me wrong it's well written with an engaging story line, but I found the characters to be somewhat frustrating at times, and some elements of the plot a tad too slapstick humor for my liking.

Dallas is a playboy, he's arrogant, and has quite a hot temper.  He's used to getting what he wants, and is surprised when Callie makes him work for her attention.

Having three older brothers who are a tad on the overbearing side, Callie can hold her own, she's quite capable of dealing with persistent, arrogant males.  She can recognize a player when she sees one, and makes Dallas prove his worth.  Callie is kind, caring, sweet, loving, compassionate and strong.

The banter overall is fun and flirty with some moments that are quite humorous, and also hot and steamy.  This title is told in a dual point of view, and has a small element of angst.

I will look forward to the next title in the series, and really enjoyed seeing the previous pair of characters appear so frequently within this story line.

Release Date Oct. 31, 2017

Actress Sophie Birch is used to having to look out for herself. So, when her theater catches fire and a big guy scoops her up into his arms to save her, she's going to fight every step of the way. Even if he's a cop. And really sexy. And his arms feel oh-so-good.

Finn Kelly can't help but appreciate how good the woman in his arms looks in her sexy pink lingerie. Even if she's currently resisting arrest.

But as the two get to know each other, they're both surprised by the things Finn is willing to do to get closer to her. And when Sophie's estranged father arrives in town and starts causing trouble, the stage is set for disaster...unless Finn can convince her that, for once in her life, she has someone to lean on.

I've been reading romance since my mom first let me into her book cupboard when I was about fourteen. LaVyrle Spencer, Julie Garwood, Debbie Macomber... they took my 'happily ever after' ideas from animated princesses to real people in the real world.

I've been writing romance almost as long. Many a family car trip was spent with my head bent over a spiral notebook in the back seat. I'll confess that my very first attempts at fiction were fantasy and paranormals, influenced by my father's love of the Lord of the Rings, The Chronicles of Narnia, and the original Alice in Wonderland. If Harry Potter had been around, I'm sure he would have been on the bedtime story shelf as well.

But it wasn't long until I started writing about true love and that's where I've been ever since.

I'm so thrilled to be able to share these stories with you! I hope that they make you smile, sigh, maybe even choke up a little. Most of all, I hope that they help you believe in magical things like first kisses, the spark of passion, and the power of true love.

Miss Fix-It - Emma Hart - Release Blitz & Review

One handywoman.

One single dad.

One set of twins.

And the wall isn’t the only thing being drilled…

I learned the hard way that being a handywoman isn’t easy. The questions, the stares—the assumption I’m the proud owner of a cock and balls. Not that it matters. I’ve proven over and over that I’m ready for anything the judgmental asses throw at me.

Except the hot, single dad of twins who just moved to town.

Brantley Cooper gets the shock of his life when I show up on his doorstep to fix up his kids’ new rooms. His son is confused why ‘the pretty lady has a drill,’ and his daughter has a new obsession—me.

On paper, my job is easy. Go in, do their bedrooms, and leave.

In theory, I’m spending eight hours a day with a guarded, sexy as hell guy, and I’m staying for dinner more often than I’m eating it alone, on my couch, with Friends re-runs.

I shouldn’t be staying for dinner. I shouldn’t be helping him out with the twins. I shouldn’t be falling in love with tiny toes and dimpled cheeks.

And I most definitely should not be kissing my client.

Oops…

I swear, messing with me is your new favorite hobby.”“It is,” he admitted, eyes sparkling. “You’re so easy to mess with, I don’t even have to try.”

I rolled my eyes. “And to think—I let myself be guilt-tripped into this.”“More fool you. I warned you about her, and you obviously didn’t listen.”“That’s so not fair. I did listen, I just don’t have freaky skills to avoid the guilt like you do.”“I don’t avoid the guilt. I pretend.”“Would you have pretended if you were me, knowing you’d leave a poor guy to be lonely?”He raised his eyebrows. “I wouldn’t have been lonely. I’d have watched TV with my pants off.”“You don’t get to use my plans as an excuse,” I scoffed. “And unless your daughter is a master manipulator, you would have been lonely.”“She’s four. All four-year-olds are master manipulators. If kids came with manuals, that would be the title of the chapter that talks about age four,” he said.“There are technically manuals. They’re these wonderful, futuristic things called books.”“None of which are geared toward a single dad,” he pointed out. “The last time I Googled something, I diagnosed Eli with a rare, deadly disease, learned that there are way too many styles of braid for any human being to master, and also found out how to get the kids out of the door by eight and have time to do my make-up.”I paused. “I can see how that last one would be of use to you. Your mascara looks wonderful today.”

4.5 Stars

Having only recently discovered Emma Hart, I was very eager to read this title as soon as I saw the reveal for this bright, fun, enticing cover, add a single father into the synopsis and I was hooked.

Miss Fix-It is a completely entertaining romantic-comedy, that oozes heat, heart and above all humor, with characters that will steal your heart.  I loved the chemistry between Brantley and Kali and the slow build up of sexual tension.  Miss Fix-It is a  sweet, sexy, witty and fun read with banter that is fun, flirty and filled with sexual innuendo.  So often throughout this title I found myself laughing out loud, smiling or giggling to the antics of these endearing, yet completely relate-able characters.

I was captivated with Brantley and Kali's story from the very first page, and much to my disgust had to put it down to perform parenting duties like collecting the kids from school, helping with homework and preparing dinner.  Once I completed those tasks the kids were on there own, and I dived straight back into this captivating, engaging and entertaining read.

Kali is a fabulous character, although she's a handyman/builder she doesn't fit into any stereotypical mold, she's very feminine.  She's sarcastic, smart, sassy, and optimistic.  Although she lacks experience with children, and doesn't seem to have maternal instincts I loved the evolving nature of her relationship with Ellie and Eli.

This title is told from the sole point of view of Kali, and I would have loved to have had some of the book in Brantley's point of view.  He's a serious, kind, caring single father.  His frustration at times is palpable, and very realistic and makes him completely relate-able.

I adored the interactions not only between Kali and Brantely, but with his two endearing, lovable, precocious twins Ellie and Eli.  This rambunctious pair of four year olds were so realistic and relate-able, and funny with the mischief and mayhem they create, but at the same time completely adorable.

I cannot recommend this title highly enough to anyone who enjoys a romantic comedy, and I will be eagerly anticipating more of Emma Hart's work in the future.

Title: Max's Redemption
Author: L. Wilder
Genre: Romantic Suspense Standalone
Release Date: November 7, 2017

Max:
Harper Campbell was beautiful, smart, and innocent. I’d loved her even before I knew I did.

There was just one problem. She was my best friend’s sister. She was off-limits in ways I couldn’t begin to explain, but I couldn’t help myself.

We were just kids when we fell in love—young and carefree. The world was right there at our fingertips. Then tragedy struck, and I felt I was to blame.

Knowing I would be a constant reminder of the heartbreak I’d caused, I did the only thing I thought I could—I left.

Harper:
I’d loved him for as long as I could remember, and losing him almost broke me.

I tried to move on.
I tried to forget.
But how do you forget the one person you loved with all your heart and soul?

I never thought I’d see him again, but with one unexpected encounter, he was back.

I never believed in second chances. I’d always thought there was no way to go back and fix the mistakes we’d made, but I learned that it wasn’t about changing the past. Second chances are for proving that we can be better—even after we’ve failed.

Leslie Wilder grew up in a small town in West Tennessee. A country girl at heart, she’s always thought that life is too short, but she had no idea how short it really was until her brother passed away in 2014. She’s always been an avid reader, loving the escape only a great book can give, and wondered if she had what it took to write one of the wild romances she’d come to adore. With the support of her family and friends, she published Inferno: A Devil Chaser’s MC, one year after her brother’s death. With him in mind, she fulfilled her lifetime dream of writing. Since then, she’s completed the Devil Chaser’s Series and continued on with the Satan’s Fury MC Series. She has so many stories in her head, and can’t wait to share each and every one.
Leslie has been blown away by the support of her readers, appreciating every message, review, and encouraging word she’s received over the past year. She looks forward to continuing this journey with them for years to come.

About the Gansett Island Episodes…

From Marie: My fictional island has become such a huge part of my life—and yours—over these last six years, and I’ve created so many characters who speak to me between books and during the writing of new ones. I can’t possibly give them all a new story in every book, but I still have so much to say about them. With that in mind, I’ll be launching a new “Gansett Island Episodes” series in 2017, featuring shorter stories about past characters who readers love and want more of. Mixed in with these episodes will be at least one full-length book a year. So we’ll have plenty more from our favorite island, with new stories for past characters as well as all-new stories, too. I’m looking forward to this new adventure and hope you’ll take the ferry to Gansett for the new episodes!

4.5 Stars

I have been a fan of the Gansett Island series for several years and every time I pick up one of the Gansett Island titles it feels like I'm catching up with old friends.

This title focuses on Kevin and Chelsea who is sixteen years his junior.  This pair are completely endearing, and captivating.

Kevin & Chelsea's story is a lovely, sweet story of love and compromise, with a few twists and turns that keep you on your toes, and completely enthralled.

I love that so many of my favorite residents of Gansett Island appear within the story line, and we gain a glimpse into possible future romances, births of babies, and future plans for the McCarthy clan.
I will be eagerly awaiting the next title in this fabulous series, and cannot wait for more of the McCarthy's and Gansett Island.
