Grand Slam - Heidi McLaughlin - Review

Grand Slam
A Boys of Summer Novel
Heidi McLaughlin

Win the game. Lose your heart.

Everyone knows who I am and that I could have any female fan I want. That's supposed to be the "perk" of playing left field for the Boston Renegades. But I don't want just any woman; I want her.

She should be just another face in the crowd, but I can't stop thinking about the one night we spent together-and her look of regret the morning after.

Because Saylor Blackwell is the kind of woman who haunts a man. Smart, sexy as hell, and one of the best managers in the business. She's every ballplayer's dream woman. And I'd do anything to make things right with her.

I'm done sitting on the bench when it comes to Saylor Blackwell. Time to swing for the fences.

4 Stars

Grand Slam, was the first title that I have read in the Boys of Summer series, and I believe it can be read as a standalone, although at some point I will probably go back and read the previous title as I really enjoy a sports romance, and Heidi McLaughlin's style of writing.

Travis Kidd has a reputation as a ladies man, which comes back to bite him in the ass!

Saylor is Travis's publicist and this pair have an intense, but believable chemistry.  Saylor's behavior at times was a tad frustrating, but quite understandable as the story progressed and more information was revealed regarding her past.  Along with Saylor, comes her young daughter Lucy, who is a scene-stealer.  I adored the relationship that develops between Lucy and Travis, it's incredibly heartwarming.

Although this book is high in emotion, angst and drama, I quite often found myself laughing out loud at Travis' one liners that were peppered throughout the book.   I found Grand Slam to have endearing and complex characters, and to be a thoroughly enjoyable read, quite fast paced and well written.
