Ben Miller met the love of his life the day he crossed paths with Elle James in their high school cafeteria. New to Beaumont, he took a chance when he approached her. Their first encounter was everything his mother ever read to him about fairy tales. He saw the girl who would be his forever.
From the moment Elle James met Ben Miller they’ve been best friends. Everything they did, they did it together, from late night study sessions, family vacations, throwing bottles off the water tower, going to prom and finally moving to California for college.
However, after the almost tragic accident where she nearly lost her twin sister, Elle’s life hasn’t been the same, and neither has her relationship with Ben.
One fateful decision changes the scope of Ben and Elle’s relationship. For one, it means a new beginning. For the other, it means change.

3.5 Stars
My Unexpected Love is the second title in the Beaumont's Next Generation series, it's a friends to lovers story told in a dual point of view featuring Ben and Elle. This title is an interconnected standalone, but I highly recommend reading Holding Onto Forever before this title as otherwise there will be spoilers.
I'm a fan of Heidi's work and lover her writing style, so you might wonder why I only rated this title 3.5 stars. It basically came down to the fact that I really struggled to connect with the heroine Elle.
On the other hand Ben was such a lovely character to read. He's kind, loving, loyal, supportive and compassionate and loves Elle in spite of all her short comings.
Elle has everything going for her, she's popular, has a wonderful family and friends, but when an accident nearly claims the life of her twin, and her behaviours spiral out of control. Gone is the studious, compassionate, kind hearted twin, in it's place is selfish, self absorbed, and unreliable young woman who is completely oblivious to the feelings of her oldest and dearest friend. Despite her unattractive character traits, her ability to recognise her wrongs, redeemed her character to me.
Once again this title has strong themes of family and friendship flowing throughout, much like the previous titles in the series, and I look forward to reading more of the Beaumont's Next Generation.
