Although Reckless King is the second full length title in the Kings of Rittenhouse it was my first time reading anything written by Maya Hughes. I love a new adult college/sports romance, and have a particular soft spot for hockey players so I was drawn to this title.
Heath and Kara's story is steamy, heat filled forbidden romance. It's also full of twists and turns, drama and conflict. At times I felt that the conflict was a bit too much, and detracted from the development of the story.
In saying that this pair of characters were well developed, unique and complex. When it comes to Heath the phrase Still Waters Run Deep comes to mind. He's a far cry from the jock hockey player stereotype. Sweet, sexy, compassionate, passionate and intense there's a lot more than meets the eye.
Kara is intelligent, driven and hardworking. She's independent but isolates herself from those around her, and has little experience with dating and relationships, instead puts all her focus into her studies, and quest to prove her worth.
The chemistry and attraction between this pair is undeniable and I quite look forward to seeing the rest of the Kings find their happy ever after.
