JARED

If I had a dollar for every time Banner Morales made my heart skip a beat...
The heart everyone assumes is frozen over.
Her anger is...arousing.
Every glare from those fire-spitting eyes, every time she grits her teeth,
gets me...well, you know.
If I had a dollar for every time she's put me in my place, I'd be an even richer man.
I'm a successful sports agent because I assume "no" means you'll think about it.
I'm sure what you meant to say is "Coming right up.”
They say even rich men don't always get what they want,
but those men don't know how to play the game. The trick is to keep them guessing.
Take Banner. She assumes she's winning, but this game?
She doesn't even know how to play.

BANNER

If I had a dollar for every time Jared Foster broke my heart, I’d have exactly one dollar.
One night. One epic fail. One dollar...and I'm out.
I've moved on.
I’ve found success in a field ruled by men.
Anything they can do, I have done better.
They can keep the field while I call the shots, blocking them when I have to.
And Jared has the nerve to think he gets a second chance?
Boy, please. Go sit down. Have several seats.
I'll just be over here ignoring the man carved from my fantasies with a lust-tipped chisel.
Oh, I didn't say the struggle wasn't real.
But I've got that one dollar, and Jared won't have me.

BLOCK SHOT TEASER AN.jpg

5 Stars

Long Shot was my first time experiencing Kennedy Ryan’s writing ability, and it left me wanting more.  I was incredibly eager to read Block Shot the second Hoops Novel featuring Jared and Banner.

Block Shot is not your typical second chance romance.  It will grab hold of you, and keep your attention from start to finish.  It’s an incredibly engaging, and well written story that leaves you feeling a range of emotions.  The character are not only incredibly complex, but also very dynamic, and their story is more than a romance, it’s a commentary that confronts many issues that face women in today’s society.

Jared is not quite an anti-hero, but he’s incredibly ruthless, brazen, and arrogant.  He is not the type of man to stand back and let life pass him by.  When he wants something, he goes after it with an undeniable intensity, focus and tenacity.   There’s no denying his sex appeal, or his intelligence.

Banner is oh so relatable.  Strong, resilient, successful, intelligent and hard working you can easily understand how she’s made it to the top of her field in a male dominated profession.  She’s also kind, caring, compassionate and has a huge heart.  I loved that such a fierce, highly motivated and successful woman still had insecurities and vulnerabilities that we can all relate to.  She hears those little voices in her head that we all hear at different points in our lives.  The ones telling us we won’t succeed, we aren’t strong enough, fast enough, good enough, thin enough.

Did I love all the action and choices this pair made throughout their journey? No I didn’t, but it just makes them all the more human.  Their actions are forgivable when you discover the bigger picture, and you can see the honesty behind their intentions.

I loved the sexual chemistry and tension between this pair.  Their attraction was undeniable and intense, and the banter they share is full of fun, flirtatious, sensual and antagonistic commentary.

Whilst I didn’t love all the choices this pair made, I loved their journey and it was lovely to see more of August and Iris, and I cannot wait for Hook Shot to see more of Lotus and Kenan.
