Who
needs mistletoe?
Most
people wouldn’t think of a bad Santa case as the perfect Christmas gift. Then
again, Molly Malone, office
manager at Hunt Investigations, isn’t most people, and she could really use a
distraction from the fantasies she’s been having since spending the night with
her very secret crush, Lucas
Knight. Nothing happened, not that Lucas knows that—but Molly just wants
to enjoy being a little naughty for once . . .
Whiskey
and pain meds for almost-healed bullet wounds don’t mix. Lucas needs to
remember that next time he’s shot on the job, which may be sooner rather than
later if Molly’s brother, Joe, finds out about them. Lucas can’t believe he’s
drawing a blank on his (supposedly) passionate tryst with Molly, who’s the
hottest, smartest, strongest woman he’s ever known. Strong enough to kick his
butt if she discovers he’s been assigned to babysit her on her first case. And
hot enough to melt his cold heart this Christmas . . .
4 Stars
Hot Winter Nights is
the sixth addition to the Heartbreaker Bay series, although it can be read as a
standalone. I haven’t read the previous
titles in the series, but thoroughly enjoyed Mollie and Lucas’ story.
Mollie Malone, is the
office manager for Hunt Investigations, and although she’s cable, determined
and smart, she strives for more. Feeling
undervalued and useless at times, she is determined to prove her worth and
ability to investigate just like her male counterparts. She’s tough, intelligent and sassy, but due
to an incident in her pas she has some physical limitations, and insecurities
about her appearance. Strong and resilient,
yet vulnerable, she’s frustrated by the over protectiveness her brother and
co-workers extend her way.
Lucas is an
investigator for Hunt Investigations, and also Mollie’s brother’s best friend. He’s been reminded that she is off limits, but
as is the way with most things we are told to stay away from, she becomes the
forbidden fruit that he is inexplicably drawn to. Lucas may be a brooding, bad-ass alpha, but
he is also quite vulnerable, and not looking for a relationship.
Lucas and Mollie work
together to investigate a case bought to her attention by her eccentric elderly
neighbour. There’s much more going on
than they originally believe and the danger, intrigue and emotions pull you
into the story and keep you enthralled.
The chemistry they
share is undeniable, and despite their best efforts to ignore their mutual
attraction, the sexual tension and sparks continue to build.
Honestly Christmas themed
books are not generally my favourite but I quite enjoyed this well paced story
and look forward to reading more of the Heartbreaker Bay series in the future.
